The Bread of Life Project

The Bread of Life began as the "Open Out Development Project" of Christ Church, supported by Churches Together in South Southwark. This aimed at opening out both the building and the congregation. In relation to the congregation, many special fund raising initiatives were undertaken, and with the help of our two parent churches and the local Area Community Council over £400,000 was raised for the building development.

The Project exists to enable Christ Church, Gateway Ministries, other local churches and local community organisations to:

• Develop further the sense of community in the local neighbourhood, especially through the Bread of Life Cafe
• Promote the vision of a fair trading system for the wider world community, especially through the Bread of Life Fair Trade Centre
• Campaign for a healthier local community, especially among young children through the Children's Health Project with local schools
• Explore the possibility of meeting specific needs among the socially excluded
• Demonstrate for the churches the practical outworking of their faith
• Provide, encourage and engage in other such activities as will assist in the proper performance of the above.
